The Fried family appears to have come to America from Germany in the mid to late 18th century. Lorentz Fried settled in Carroll County, Maryland while his children settled at Codorus in York County, Pennsylvania.

Diary

21 Feb 2005, I visited the old St. David's Lutheran Church in Hanover, Pennsylvania. I only found two Fried stones. The first stone was for my 5th great grandfather Lorentz Fried. I also found the stone of his wife, Elizabeth. There may be more but many of the stones are unreadable.

Jacob Leroy Fried (947) was born on 5 Oct 1805 at Maryland, USA. He and Elizabeth Sherman (948) were married by Jacob Albert, Minister of the Gospel on 18 Aug 1835. He died on 9 Dec 1885 at age 80. He was buried at Bethlehem Steltz Churchyard, Codorus, York County, Pennsylvania, USA.

Children of Jacob Leroy Fried and Elizabeth Sherman were as follows :

1. Ellen Mary Fried (599) was born on 15 Oct 1835 at Maryland, USA. She married Cornelius Victor Bressler (598), son of John Bressler (939) and Catharine Lawson (940), circa 1853.
2. Alberdina Fried (4956) was born on 9 Jun 1838 at Manheim, York County, Pennsylvania, USA. She married Jesse Shaffer (7505).
3. Eliza Ann Fried (4957) was born circa 1841 at Pennsylvania, USA. She married Jake Bollinger (7503).
4. Edward Fried (4958) was born on 21 Dec 1843 at Manchester, Carroll County, Maryland, USA. He married Rose Ellen Bressler (4955), daughter of John Bressler (939) and Catharine Lawson (940), circa 1864 at Steltz, York County, Pennsylvania, USA.
5. Elizabeth Fried (4959) was born circa 1845 at Pennsylvania, USA. She married George Dennis (7502).
6. Josiah Fried (5037) was born on 22 Nov 1845. He died on 2 Apr 1853 at age 7. He was buried after 2 Apr 1853 at Bethlehem Steltz Churchyard, Codorus, York County, Pennsylvania, USA.
7. Jacob Fried (5036) was born on 12 Feb 1851. He died on 12 Feb 1851. He was buried after 12 Feb 1851 at Bethlehem Steltz Churchyard, Codorus, York County, Pennsylvania, USA.
