Our Rose family lived much of the last two centuries in southwestern Virginia and the mountains of North Carolina. Some research places the Rose immigrants at Kilvarock, Scotland in the early 18th century. It is difficult to confirm this however as much of the early records are incomplete.

Wilson Rose (148) was born circa 1807 at Burke County, North Carolina, USA. He married Virginia Jane Vance (150), daughter of Rev. He was a farmer and a Baptist preacher. He and Virginia Jane Vance (150) moved came to what is now Dickenson County around 1840 with his brothers, sister, and their families. They lived in the Dickenson County area for the remainder of their lives. It is no wonder why the area appealed to them, for the hills were thickly forested and rich with wild game. Before settlers came to the area, neighboring tribes used the same land as hunting grounds. Wilson Rose was a renown hunter circa 1840 in Dickenson County, Virginia, USA.
